Secondary School Transfer September 2022 - Updated link |
Audience: All Primary School Head Teachers (excluding Infant Schools) for Year 6 pupils only Action Required: Please share with Year 6 parents/carers We would appreciate if all primary schools and academies could share the attached letter with parent/carers of year 6 children re applying for a secondary school place for September 2022. Could they also use their own messaging systems to share the information and send reminders to Year 6 parents to apply for a secondary school place by the closing date which is 31 October 2021. Parents can apply for a secondary school place from 12 September and the deadline to apply is 31 October 2021. The letter provides a link to the admissions area of the North Yorkshire County Council website where all of the information they need to apply electronically is available at www.northyorks.gov.uk/admissions If a parent is not able to apply online we are requesting your assistance in permitting parents to access a computer at your school if necessary. It is important that any new starters into year 6 are made aware that they need to apply for a secondary school place and are provided with a copy of the attached letter. Parent/Carers of pupils who live who live outside North Yorkshire must apply and obtain information from their home authority regarding their application process. If they want their child to attend a NYCC school they still need to make the application to their home authority and information will be shared between other LAs, as part of the LA’s co-ordinated admissions scheme. The final date for parents to express a preference for a secondary school place is 31st October 2021 and we will contact you before this regarding any applications that are outstanding. An application received after 31st October 2021, without a genuine reason, will be considered as a late application. This means that they are looked at after all other parental preferences for the school have been met. Should you receive any paper applications directly please forward these to us as soon as possible by the deadline. This is because the School Admissions Code and the published admissions scheme do not allow us to include late submissions until all other on time allocations have been met, therefore parents’ late applications could adversely affect their allocation of a school place. A paper copy of the all the secondary school information including the common application form is available if required please email schooladmissions@northyorks.gov.uk or contact us on 01609 533679 |

Audience: all schools Cascade to: SENCOs As from the beginning of term we have a digital EHCP which links to the Schools Access Module (SAM) which many of you will be familiar with. Further information will follow regarding training webinars and support for you to use this but as a priority, we need to ensure you all have access to the system. This will allow you to access the Synergy records of the children in school that you are working with as this will be where all their EHCP information will be processed and stored. For the users we anticipate that there will be at least one person per school and that should be the SENCO. If you are a larger secondary school or if you have a SENCO across a number of schools and then a named person in each one there may be more. Please let us know who you have in that role for each school on the attached form. We are able to give access to the records for those children with EHCPs once we know who the users are. You don’t need to give us the details of the children with EHCPs. You can use the system for children at SEN Support – more details to follow in the webinars. If you have a relatively small number at SEN Support at this time, you may want to be able to access all of their records. If you have a larger number, you may want to let us know about those whose needs are at the band 3 level where you may be considering an EHC Assessment request in this academic year, please do let us know about those. The reason for this is that you will have access to the record and the SEN Support functionality straight away for those that you tell us about on this form. You will be able to request access for additional individual children as we go through the year. The urgent information is the contact details for the SENCO(s) in your school. Please can you complete the attached form and send it to SEN@northyorks.gov.uk so that we can make sure you all have access. Ideally we need this by Friday 24 September. |

Audience: All schools Cascade: Headteachers and staff North Yorkshire is joining communities from across the UK in a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The North Yorkshire Lieutenancy is backing the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which encourages people to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”, thereby providing a legacy for future generations to enjoy whilst helping to tackle climate change. Individuals, schools, parishes, community groups, villages, towns, cities and businesses will be encouraged to plant trees from this October, when the tree planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022. More information can be found in the attached letter and FAQ document The Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs Johanna Ropner, said: “With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage tree planting to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.” “From individual trees or shrubs requiring just a few square metres of space to large woodland projects, there is a way for everyone to get involved no matter the scale.” Support is available to anyone who would like to take part, from help and advice about tree planting to tangible support such as over three million free saplings being made available to schools and community groups. For more information please visit the QGC website. Communities can also order a commemorative plaque to mark this tribute to Her Majesty. Anybody who is interested in doing so should email clerkllny@camphill.co.uk “The North Yorkshire Lieutenancy would be delighted to receive an invitation to attend your planting ceremony on behalf of The Queen and please share your stories with us about what you have done to celebrate this historic milestone,” added Mrs Johanna Ropner. “Let us show our county’s heart-felt appreciation for Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 years of dedicated service to our nation by planting as many trees as possible here in North Yorkshire and South Teesside.” |

New resource websites for schools, young people and parents in North Yorkshire |
Audience: All schools Cascade to: Heads and teaching staff Last winter, North Yorkshire County Council consulted the public, stakeholders and professional bodies over a 10-week period to find new ways to deliver the Healthy Child Programme (health visiting and school nursing services) in the face of reduced national Public Health funding of £4 million. The new model, with a focus on children under five to ensure a best start of life, received support from people who responded to the public consultation on the proposal. As a result, much of the change in service offer is for school age children. We have worked with local partners to create a bank of resources and information for issues relevant to schools, families, children and young people. School staff can find those resources on the Healthy Schools website here: Healthy Schools - Child Health support. The website has information around: • The Healthy Child service • Emotional mental health • Vision/hearing/bowel and bladder control • Sleep • Diet/nutrition • Physical activity • Alcohol/smoking/substance misuse • Sexual health • LGBT School staff can use the website to learn more about an issue, find ways to signpost families and/or children and young people or refer a child or young person to a service where appropriate. Schools can also call our Customer Service Centre on 01609 780780 and one of our advisers will be able to direct the query appropriately. In addition, we have identified information and resources for parents and young people themselves. Those can be found on the NYCC website here: www.northyorks.gov.uk/healthy-child-service A briefing relating to this and other developments will be circulated to Headteachers shortly. |
