New opportunities in the School Improvement team |
Audience: all schools Cascade: Headteachers and teaching staff As you are aware the Council is committed to its school improvement function and additional resources have been made available to support investment in the team. Today you will see the launch of an exciting recruitment campaign to attract new members to the school improvement team at all levels. We are looking to fill the following posts - Head of School Improvement
- Principal Advisers x2
- Senior Education Advisers x2 (permanent, secondments and associate posts available)
- Safeguarding Advisers (schools) x2
The posts will commence in September and we are seeking candidates with recent and relevant experience of leading school improvement in a school, LA or MAT setting. We are also seeing some leavers in the team. Rebekah Taylor is leaving the LA to return to a role in secondary schools in a South Yorkshire MAT. Laura Birkett is moving in a headship role in another local authority area. I am sure you will join me in thanking them both for their work for North Yorkshire schools and wish them well on their next steps. Jon Norden will be joining the School Improvement team after Easter. Jon has previously worked as a secondary academy principal and has supported school improvement across a MAT, he has recently been providing interim leadership in a North Yorkshire secondary school. The roles can be found at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/school-improvement If you are interested in finding out more or would like a conversation about any of the roles please contact Jess Sangster Jessica.sangster@northyorks.gov.uk stating which role you are interested in, Jess will arrange for one of the team to contact you. Schools will be notified via email letter on Monday if they require a change of adviser due to team changes. We have planned to keep changes to the minimum. |

Audience: all schools Cascade: Headteachers to cascade to parents Following a recent review we’ve noticed that a number of eligible children are not taking up the offer of a free school meal. We know there are a variety of reasons for this and we’d like to continue to work in partnership with you to increase the numbers of children benefitting from a hot school meal. Free school meals could save families up to £450 a year per child; a much needed financial boost due to the cost of living increasing. Many families may just need a little help and guidance on how to apply or a reminder that they are eligible to claim. We would be very grateful for your support in helping these families with their applications. |

IMPORTANT information regarding this offer: Convert to a electricity smart meter and get a £100 grant plus help with installation costs |
Audience: all schools Cascade: Headteachers to cascade to parents We understand that the attached email has been sent to all primary schools, offering upgraded electricity meters, grants and a sum towards costs. You should not take up this offer. Your electricity meter has already been upgraded. Over 90% of the meters in North Yorkshire schools are already upgraded to ARM-enabled meters (also known as Smart Meters), free of charge, by our electricity supply. In the few instances where the meter has not been upgraded, it is because of technical problems. I will contact those schools directly to discuss what they should do; the Energy Team would first like to check the validity and details of this scheme before advising you further. A guide sheet is also in the attachment which explains the different types of meter, and how you can opt to see very detailed consumption data from your meter should you wish to. Please feel free to contact the Energy Team if you have further questions, e: Karen.P.Atkinson@northyorks.gov.uk |

Audience: all primary schools - LA maintained and academies Cascade: head teacher, primary assessment leader The Standards and Testing Agency will be sharing the attached information in their next newsletter and have asked our LA if there are any primary schools that may be interested in supporting this research into how pupils and staff interact with digital services, devices, and assessments. It is a voluntary project starting in March and April 2022, and the STA are keen to work flexibly to meet the needs of schools at this time. If a visit is planned as part of the research, schools will receive payment to cover supply costs for the day. If you do choose to participate (follow the link in the pdf), please let Lindsay Miller know - it will be interesting to find out how North Yorkshire schools are involved in this national research project.
