The U.S. National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Research Infrastructure Office (RIO) hosted the 2023 Research Infrastructure Workshop from June 27 – 30, 2023, in Washington, DC. Attendees were able to attend the event in-person or remotely.
The workshop included one in-person and one remote poster session. In addition, in-person registrants were given a tour of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum while under construction.
ABOUT THE ANNUAL RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE WORKSHOP
The Research Infrastructure Workshop (RIW) is a collaborative forum for all the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Research Infrastructure Projects. We strive to support NSF’s mission and promote the scientific endeavor with the following desired outcomes:
- Provide a forum to collect and share best practices and lessons learned
- Discuss new initiatives and collect community input
- Demonstrate project management, operations, and business-related tools and techniques
- Expand our community of practice by connecting colleagues across disciplines and organizations to promote collaboration between facilities
Program content from this year’s workshop included topics on: Facility Management including Facility Condition Assessment, Project Management (with some PDU offerings), Operations Management, Facility and Workplace Safety, Award Management, Cyberinfrastructure, Cyber Security, and Education and Public Outreach.
Notably, this year’s workshop featured a track specific to Mid-Scale Research institutions.
