STEM for Oceans

The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) believes in caring for people and the planet. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education is a key driver for environmental sustainability and care for the Earth. Through our STEM programs, we help protect ecosystems for current and future generations.

The ocean absorbs 31% of the CO2 derived from human activities. More than three billion people depend on the ocean for their livelihoods, and it is a major source of food for humans. Its conservation is important.

Scientific exploration and investigation are crucial. Caring for the ocean is caring for life.

PADF’s “STEM For Oceans” has taught more than 665 students how to use robotic kits to build underwater drones. It also provides students with the opportunity to collaborate in groups and sharpen their communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills necessary for the 21st century.

“STEM For Oceans” has trained more than 70 teachers in STEM methodologies and gives them the ability to create stimulating classroom environments, as well as design and deliver effective lesson plans to achieve desired learning outcomes.

“STEM For Oceans” promotes the importance of leadership and inclusion in teachers and students, impacting more than 434 women and girls.

“I went into the STEM teacher training thinking it would be another professional development activity. However, little did I know it would be a life-changing event. I walked in and was amazed with the different STEM activities that were discussed and how other subjects were integrated into the activities.”
